Winter surfing in North Devon

The weather has been especially ferocious at times this winter so far, bringing with it huge waves that pound the North Devon coastline, amazing to watch, exhilarating to surf. Wild weather is interspersed with quiet moments, these are the days that you explore the coastline and find the more sheltered beaches, coves and reefs, a local favourite being Putsborough, but seek and you may find…

Please be aware though to take all the necessary precautions before entering the sea, find information at a local surf shop, or such like, the surf in North Devon can be dangerous in the winter, the simple rule is, if you don’t feel safe and confident about a situation, DONT GO IN! Just watch, there’s no harm in that, its as good.

Most of the locations that you can find waves are beautiful in their own right, with beautiful coastline and countryside, quaint nestled villages, with smoking chimneys, winter is no less beautiful. Waking on crisp, clear mornings to find perfect waves happens more in the winter than the summer…

All of the locations that our holiday cottages and accommodation are in are near the coast, and at this time of the year, even if it isn’t right on the beach, the roads are generally much quieter in winter and thus easier to get to the beach.
